How I Used Guided Meditation to Discover My Theriotype

Hey, fellow therians! Today I want to share my journey of discovering my theriotype through guided meditation. If you’re new to the therian community or just curious about how to connect more deeply with your inner animal, this might give you some inspiration. Spoiler alert: I found out that I’m an Iriomote cat, and it was an amazing experience!

Starting the Journey

So, let’s rewind a bit. Like a lot of you, I always felt a bit different. I had these weirdly specific feelings, like this constant pull towards nature and this deep love for cats. But not just any cats—wild ones, the kind that roam the forests and stay hidden from humans. Still, I couldn’t quite figure out what this all meant until I stumbled across the idea of theriotypes and guided meditation.

I’d heard some other therians talk about how they used meditation to connect with their theriotype, so I thought, why not give it a shot? I was a bit skeptical at first—like, how could sitting quietly with your eyes closed reveal anything that deep? But, boy, was I wrong.

Finding the Right Guided Meditation

I started by searching online for guided meditations specifically designed to help find your spirit animal or theriotype. There are so many options out there, so it took a bit of trial and error to find one that really clicked with me. I found one that was all about imagining yourself walking through a dense forest, surrounded by nature, and waiting for your animal to appear. The voice was super calming, and it felt like the perfect vibe for what I needed.

My First Meditation Experience

So, I found a quiet spot in my room, lit some candles (because vibes, right?), and started the meditation. The guide’s voice slowly led me into this deep, relaxed state where I was walking through a forest in my mind. Everything was so vivid—I could hear the leaves rustling, smell the damp earth, and feel the cool breeze on my skin.

As I walked deeper into the forest, I started to feel this presence. It was like I wasn’t alone anymore. Then, out of nowhere, I saw it—a sleek, wild cat moving gracefully through the trees. It was an Iriomote cat, small but fierce, with those sharp eyes and silent movements. And in that moment, I just knew. This wasn’t just a random animal showing up in my meditation; it was me.

Connecting the Dots

After the meditation, I felt this overwhelming sense of calm and understanding. Like, everything just made sense. I started doing more research on the Iriomote cat, and it was like reading about myself. These cats are rare, elusive, and deeply connected to their natural surroundings—exactly how I feel most of the time. They’re also fiercely independent but still part of a small, close-knit community, which really resonated with me.

I kept doing the guided meditation regularly, and each time, the connection felt stronger. It was like this little wild cat was a part of me that I had been overlooking for so long, and now I was finally acknowledging it.

Reflecting and Growing

I also started keeping a dream journal, as dreams are another way your theriotype can show itself. Writing down my dreams helped me see patterns—like how I often dream of running through forests or hunting, just like an Iriomote cat. It’s funny how your mind works, showing you clues even when you’re not actively searching for them.

Talking about my experiences with other therians was super helpful too. Sharing your journey with people who understand where you’re coming from makes it all feel more real and valid. Plus, hearing their stories gave me new insights into my own experiences.

Final Thoughts

If you’re still figuring out your theriotype or want to strengthen your connection to it, I highly recommend trying guided meditation. It’s such a chill and introspective way to explore your inner self. And remember, there’s no rush. Your journey is your own, and it’ll unfold in its own time.

So grab a comfy blanket, find a meditation that resonates with you, and see where it takes you. Who knows, maybe your theriotype is just waiting for you in the depths of your mind, ready to be discovered.

Stay wild, Leonie 🌿🐾

Leonie

Hi! I'm Leonie and theriotype is (probably) irimote cat. This is a subspecies of the leopard cat that lives exclusively on the Japanese island of Iriomote. It comes out in my fierce nature but also when I find comfort being tucked in on my sofa. I enjoy making therian fandom artwork in my journal and sharing it with my friends.
