Celebrating International Therianthropy Day- November 15th

November 15, 2024
Therian

Every November 15th is a special time to honor Therians and their connection with their animal selves. It is a wonderful opportunity to build community, raise awareness, and find joy in expressing who you are. This day celebrates Therians of all types and experiences—whether you are new to exploring your therianthropy or have been on this journey for many years, there is meaning to be found for everyone. Below, I've listed a few fun activities you can do to honor yourself on this day.

Watch a Nature Documentary or Film about Your Theriotype  ‍

Snuggle up with your favorite blanket and get into a nature documentary or film featuring your theriotype. If your theriotype is a wolf, then prepare to experience The Hidden Life of Wolves . If you're a bird, try out Winged Migration, which is very awe-inspiring. Sometimes, watching your animal in action can help ground or at least inspire one as they explore their connection to it.

Take a Walk Outside and Observe Nature

No matter whether you live in the bustle of a city or near a tranquil forest, take some time outside to really soak up the environment. Watch the motion of animals, listen to birdsong, or feel the wind on your skin. It's the simple method of regaining instinct and feeling closer to your theriotype.

Create Art Inspired by Your Theriotype

Gather your favorite drawing or painting things, put on some music that you like, and draw or paint your theriotype. Don't try to make it perfect; this is about the process and creatively working with your inner animal. If this is going to be too frustrating, just journal or write a short story about one of your adventures as your animal self.

Try an Activity That Is Mindful and Connects with Your Theriotype's Qualities

Act as your theriotype might act, rest in some fashion as they would, or touch the world. If you are a feline therian, curl up in a cozy spot and spend some time in quiet repose. If you are a deer therian, take a quiet, thoughtful walk and focus on being there in the moment. Small things like this can be extremely satisfying.

Create a Vision Board for Your Therian Journey

Be creative and make a vision board about your therian identity. Take some magazines or printouts, or even draw what comes to mind about your theriotype and what it means to you. Add pictures of nature, quotes, or colors that really fit your animal self. This can be a fun and personal way to envision your connection and goals as a therian, and you will also have something nice to keep and glance back at throughout the year!

Therianthropy Day is a time to let your therian flag fly and relish the closeness you feel to your animal side. You don't have to do anything complicated; very often, the most simplistic of activities, such as watching a documentary or taking a mindful, bring in the greatest joy. However you celebrate, the most important thing is you're feeling closer to your theriotype and connected with the therian community. So take some time for yourself this November 15th, let your inner animal out, and remember you are part of a gorgeous, various community that howls, chirps, roars, and purrs in support.

Leonie

Hi! I'm Leonie and theriotype is (probably) irimote cat. This is a subspecies of the leopard cat that lives exclusively on the Japanese island of Iriomote. It comes out in my fierce nature but also when I find comfort being tucked in on my sofa. I enjoy making therian fandom artwork in my journal and sharing it with my friends.
